Marketing & Advertising Activity
Choose one activity from the two options below (or try both!) and have fun.
Option 1: Make your own Fruit or Vegetable Advertisement
Directions to making your own advertisement:
Gather Materials:
Computer or phone to view videos
Pen/pencil
Markers/crayons
Paper
Watch some commercials to get ideas – below are a few suggestions, but you can search your own!
a - Trix Cereal
b - Pepsi
c - McDonald's
d - Chipotle
Now it’s your turn to make an ad! Gather your materials and get creative.
In your ad, you will be honest about what you are selling and will not trick customers into buying it.
Pick a single whole food fruit or vegetable.
Example: apples, brocolli, cauliflower, bananas, pumpkins....
Create a name for your company.
Create a slogan.
Example: the slogan for Frosted Flakes is: “they’re grrrrrreat!”
Now, draw your ad with the food item, and write the name of your company and your slogan onto a piece of paper. Use as many colors as you’d like.
Write details on your ad that describes the food item.
Example: if you’re selling fresh strawberries, you could say “fresh strawberries hand-picked by farmers”, “red, juicy, and sweet”, “a healthy snack that will give you long-lasting energy.”
Once you’re done, look at your ad and think back to the commercials you watched.
Write 1 sentence answering the following question:
What are the major differences between your ad and the ads that you watched at the beginning of the activity?
Option 2: Write a Letter to a Company
Directions to writing a letter to a company:
Gather Materials:
Computer or phone to view videos
Pen/pencil
Paper
Watch the commercials a-d from Option 1.
Write a letter to one of the companies.
What questions do you have for the company? Here are some guiding questions to help you write this letter:
How do you really make your food products?
Is it made in a factory? Is it made on a farm?
Who makes the food?
Where are your food products manufactured? Is it in another country?
Why are you trying to sell your products to kids and not adults?
Does [celebrity/cartoon] get paid a lot of money to do your commercial?
Does [celebrity/cartoon] eat/drink your product on their own time?
What do you mean by “naturally flavored”?
Would you recommend kids eat/drink this every day?
Remember to use letter format when writing this letter.
